Mexico is a popular travel destination known for its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and delicious food. But is it possible to have a great vacation in Mexico on a budget of just $100? The answer is yes, but it will require some careful planning and budgeting. In this article, we will explore how to make $100 last for a week in Mexico and tips on how to stretch your budget further.

Accommodation

One of the biggest expenses for travelers is accommodation, and Mexico has a wide range of options to choose from. For budget-conscious travelers, camping or staying in hostels is a great option. Many hostels in Mexico offer dormitory-style rooms for as little as $5-10 per night. Campsites can cost even less, with prices starting at around $5-10 per night. If you prefer a private room, budget hotels can be found for around $20-30 per night.

Food

Food is another important factor to consider when traveling on a budget. Mexico is known for its delicious and affordable street food, which can be found at street vendors and local markets. Street tacos, for example, can cost as little as $1-2 each. Restaurants in Mexico also offer affordable options, with prices ranging from $5-10 per meal. To save money on food, it is also a good idea to shop at local markets and cook your own meals.

Transportation

Getting around Mexico on a budget can be a bit of a challenge, but it is possible. Public transportation is widely available and relatively cheap, with bus fares costing around $1-2 per trip. If you're planning on traveling between cities, consider taking an overnight bus, which can save you money on accommodation. Renting a bicycle or scooter can also be a cost-effective way to get around, with prices starting at around $10-20 per day.

Attractions

Many of the most popular attractions in Mexico are free or low-cost. For example, many of the Mayan ruins, such as Chichen Itza, are relatively inexpensive to visit, with admission prices starting at around $5-10. Many of Mexico's beaches are also free to access, and the local markets and street food fairs are also inexpensive.

Tips for Stretching Your Budget Further

To make your $100 last for a week in Mexico, it's important to be mindful of your spending and budget accordingly. Here are a few tips to help stretch your budget further:

  • Avoid peak travel seasons, as prices tend to be higher during these times.
  • Use public transportation as much as possible, as it is cheaper than taking taxis or renting cars.
  • Shop at local markets and cook your own meals to save money on food.
  • Look for free or low-cost activities, such as hiking, swimming, and exploring local markets.
  • Try couchsurfing or house sitting.

Mexico is definitely affordable! You can get nice rooms on the beach in Fulham for under 100$ yes but a week? I would say for spending money around 300$ would do for the week which is still great.

I stopped going to Miami and started going to Mexico for those go-to long weekend vacations. It’s even cheaper and it’s international! The food is amazing and there is culture and excursions. A much more fun alternative. They have clubs and jet skis just like Miami and the beach are even more beautiful.
